When you think of Amsterdam, you picture the centre with its beautiful canals. You picture canal houses with some of the city’s finest architecture. You picture crowded streets with o-so-many bicycles. That or you picture the red light district and coffee shops. And I’m not talking about Starbucks if you know what I mean *wink, wink! Most tourists only explore the centre while some tourists want to visit the ‘not so touristic’ parts of Amsterdam. The centre is indeed very beautiful, but this city has a lot more to offer.
There is this book called ‘Stuff Dutch People Like’ by Colleen Geske and I have to say, it is very funny. And true. I recognized a lot of stuff that I did not even think as unusual or even ‘typical Dutch’. The author is from Canada, but she is living in Amsterdam. The book discusses many topics like ‘gezelligheid’, stroopwafels, red pants, Dutch directness, the colour orange and more oh-so-Dutch things.
As you all may know Hostelle is the only all female hostel in the Netherlands. Why you say? We have noticed that the last couple of years women are feeling more and more comfortable travelling alone or with a small group of women. Although its recommended to allow caution in some countries, especially Europe is a female friendly destination to travel alone. Amsterdam is known as one of the most friendly female desitinations. In general the local population is very friendly and helpful and has a big asset that almost all of the locals speak english. Its is therefore logical that Hollands only female hostel is in Amsterdam. And then Hostelle was born on march 8 2012!
Amsterdam is the world’s capital of bikes, that is a fact! Not only Amsterdam but the entire country owns a wide and specialized infrastructure that promotes a better and healthier way of life for everybody.
There are more bikes than citizens and it’s not surprising, as the Dutch people know this is the most convenient way to travel around due to the geography of The Netherlands.
"Clean and beautiful hostel, 30minutes out of central Amsterdam."
The hostel was very clean and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfortable and there was a great kitchen, dining and lounge area. There were lots of eating and shopping places right outside the hostel.
"One of the best hostels."
The best hostel I put up at. Spacious, bright and clean. Interesting decorations and very good atmosphere. Very pleasant and "approachable" kitchen. Girls prove to be clean.
I loved the communal space which allowed me to make friends easily and the dvds provided. I liked that you could purchase metro and tram tickets at the hostel too and that you were close to shopping outlets and a station.
"Great location for non touristy prices."
Super clean. The decorations were cute. LIDL grocery store nearby, can put food in fridge and cook. Staff wash and dry laundry for 5 euros. Free coffee and tea. Staff helpful. Can buy museum passes and metro passes.
- Biking on Mother's day!
"Safe and clean"
The accommodations were wonderful and the key method is good. Very clean and comfortable. Free coffee at all times. Great kitchen area. Decor is cute.
"The cuttiest hostel I ever been to"
The hostel is located not far from the metro, it takes 30 min to go to the central train station. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. It was a great pleasure to see the design of this hostel: everything is so cute and rooms are decorated in accordance with different movies or some "girl things" (I lived in rooms Titanic and Ballet). In the hall you can see a big collection of DVD movies, magazines.
"Best hostel i've been to!"
So clean, and spaceous. Love the decor. Felt comfortable and relaxed and welcomed. Quiet, not a lot of guests during my time there. Beds are comfortable, a safe to keep your valuables. Felt safe leaving my bag on my bed during the day. Easy to get to from the public transport station. Directions on website are so easy to follow. Staff is friendly.
The common areas were really nice and comfortable with a lot of options to entertain yourself. The decoration is amazing and the staff was nice. The cleanliness was also a plus. A perfect spot for shopping as well.
